I especially like the part with the Buck Rogers cameo, and then the cheesecake recipe at the end.

Grimly Manor trailer

"Very slick"

date: October 29, 2006

I noticed that you bothered to come over and leave a review for our lowly daily third, so I feel obligated to return the gesture. The element that stuck out here was your colour theme, and I loved how you kept it consistent throughout without getting obvious or limited by it.

Sometimes I come back here and look at what type of animations are earning awards and more and more frequently I am not bothering because it is almost depressing that some of it even passes to begin with (though I guess that is the price of a user regulated format), but for a change I can honestly say that you deserved the award here (well obviously not over mine, but certainly over that dreadful daily second, haha). Also, we were well aware of the pacing in our piece and that it doesn’t really adhere to the structure of your typical Newgrounds fare, but we couldn’t bring ourselves to dumb it down and pander just for a better response (here in particular). We really tried to steer clear of lowbrow gags which would have come so easily. For example, one of us made a slightly less than sincere suggestion to have Leather Face break wind every time it cut to him, as we were certain it would secure us a score in the low four range, but from the creative end you have to wonder if it’s worth the compromise of credibility (it isn’t). There is also something to be said for not being too popular among this “type” of audience.

Anyway, aside from the colour doing a great job of complimenting the themes of this piece, I also loved the detail in the graphics, because it didn’t get tedious.

Thanks for popping by!

Author's Response:

See! I would have lowered myself to the fart joke. As long as it's timed right and/or adheres the the 'rule of three', it's usually funny to me.
No need to feel obligated... I just genuinely feel a sense of comraderie with flash guys. So I leave comments when they come to me. :)

and got three real sincere gut laughs. I didn't realize while we were making this that all the characters were related in such a way, but wow that really makes it seem clever! Good job us.

So what were you getting at here? Not that anything needs to be gotten to, it's good without a destination.

"Outstanding!"

date: June 4, 2006

This was something fresh, and it really captures the energy and culture of Korea perfectly. The animation is also just incredible, as are the graphics.

Anybody who doesn't like this is racist. There, I said it.

Tunnel Vision

"Yeah, this will pass"

submission: Tunnel Vision
date: May 8, 2006

Not half bad. I like to use that low alpha layer to add a sort of smoky effect, too, it's very simple an effective. I could have seen more detail on the car itself and maybe a little more time spent on some of the "fire balls", but otherwise it was very passable. The tunnel after the intro was really well animated, nice work on that.

Author's Response:

Yeah I struggled with the explosion the most. This is my first time messing around with gradients and I figured for all of the different changes in lighting I needed to work with that a alpha layer would be best.

"Yay, I get to use the word pretentious!"

date: May 6, 2006

It's forced, cliched, and full of itself. You don't really offer any insightful or helpful coping devices, which would be fine except for the fact that that was exactly your goal. I don't want to spend too long on this review because it frankly does not warrant much of my time, but the graphics were plain ugly, and your "lessons" were simply unenlightened and trite. Be ourselves? I'll try to remember that groundbreaker, genius! Rely on our friends to shoulder our burden when we are feeling down? Codependence will get you nowhere in the real world. I suggest that you continue with animation and keep practicing, artistic expression is very important. Just avoid all the contrivances and preaching next time and you will likely find it a more fulfilling experience.

Good luck!

"Awesome, best animation of the year"

date: April 5, 2006

This should be on the front page in no time. I was shocked at your candid interpretation of modern domesticated pets and how you can never put too much trust in them. Very poignant.
